WOW!!!! What an amazing kitchen- and I am not usually as fan of white(ish) cabinets. I absolutely love it especially the cabinets, pantry door (oooh) and the panel on the fridge. I have to go back and look at the rest of the house. Great job!!! -Gibby |

You have a beautiful home. And like Gibby, I'm not usually a fan of white(ish) cabinets, but yours looks classy and beautiful. Your kitchen has a tuscany flare to it. Wishing you many warm memories there and through out your home. |

I echo all sentiments above! I was so happy to see your kitchen because I have similar cabinets and countertops. We are going to be getting a new cooktop in our island(Thermador also)and are considering using a darker granite for the island (Tropic Brown). I've been nervous but seeing your kitchen puts me at ease! Thanks for posting. |

I love the lightness of your kitchen. I have a question about the integrated F&P dishdrawers. When I tried them in a store, I thought they were a little hard to manage with knobs, kind of unbalanced even though empty. So I've been planning to put handles on them. But it might have been because they were not really installed. Do you find the knobs convenient? They are certainly prettier than handles. |

Julie, I know you already addressed the DD knob situation. I am putting knobs on mine, but I was thinking of mounting them higher. Are the drawers easy to open with them in the middle? That would match my other drawers better, I just thought it might be hard to open being that far down from the top. What are your impressions? I LOVE your kitchen -- It is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!!! |

My favorite of all styles is french country so this kitchen is exceptionally beautiful to me. Who made thse gorgeous cabinets? You also chose my favorite brown granite. Look at that attention to detail, right down to the island's decorative woodwork. The change in wood color for the pantry door is the perfect choice and I love what you've done with the refrigerator. Oh but it's those cabinets that I can't stop drooling over! |

I am thinking of getting the same style vent hood that you have. Are you happy with the way it looks in your kitchen? I am usually very traditional - and my other choice is a custom hood which matches my white cabinets. But I think I may go with this instead - it just seems to add a lot of style to the kitchen. What size is your hood? Is it 36" or 48"?? It's hard to tell in the picture. Mine would be 36" -over an electric cooktop. |

Glitterbug, I selected the tiles at a local tile supply place that only sells through designers. I'm not sure if that is the only way to get them or not. But check out the manufacturers website at sonomatilemakers.com. They really do have some gorgeous tiles. Good luck. Julie |

RE: Pinkerton's Kitchen...
- Posted by: jjcpink01 (My Page) on Mon, Oct 20, 03 at 6:45
Thank you Terra! Just two words of caution if you do in fact choose the Chocolate Brown granite... 1) Because it contains large pieces of quartz, it does not accept an ogee (sp?) edge very well. I'm not sure if you can see it in the pictures or not, but it is very bumpy. And 2) buy plenty of Miracle Cloths or plain white Scott's paper towels. These are the only two things that I've found to leave it streak-free. Other than that, we love it and would choose it again. Best of luck! Julie |

RE: Pinkerton's Kitchen...

Patrice607, the dimensions are roughly 19 x 12 not counting the nook. If you look closely at the floorplan you'll see the little squares - each one is one foot. As for the cabinets, they were made by a local cabinet maker. My dad was too far away or I would have had him do them. Good luck! Julie |

Julie, I noticed that you have a Grohe faucet and it is installed with the handle facing you. Do you like it that way? Was it installed that way because there wasn't room to turn it the other way? I see on the Grohe website that there must be 3 1/2 inches between the wall and the faucet in order for the handle to work properly. If there's not enough room, they suggest turning the faucet 90 degrees to the position that yours is in. I am getting a D shaped double sink - either Blanco or Elkay. I'm just not sure if there will be enough clearance for the faucet to be installed the preferred way. RE: Julie Pinkerton's Kitchen
hi catkin - yeah, the way I posted her kitchen is confusing. I try to copy exactly what members write, so the title of the post is "Pinkerton's Kitchen & (House)" since that's how Julie posted it. But the link that Julie originally gave for her thread is no longer active. Decor_Diva volunteered to host Julie's kitchen in her own gallery. I'll change the name of the thread to remove the confusion... Thanks for catching this! |

Hi Julie!! Yeah, you're back. Is there any chance you would post the rest of your photos? I only had a few and you can see that they are still very much in demand. The funniest comment I saw though was the one about how your chalkboard refrigerator must look now. In any event, glad you checked back in. |
RE: Julie Pinkerton's Kitchen
Hi! Yes, I decided to join in again. I've been amazed at the number of members who have continued to reference my kitchen so I decided to help out when possible. The only problem is that I do not have a site to post pictures to yet. Will try to within a couple of weeks. It has been fun to read the comments, mostly all good. And the not so good ones are a hoot. As for my refrig, the pictures that are out there now are only about four months old. (Lost all of the original pictures). So, my refrig panel looks just like it did the day it was installed. Again, thanks for referencing my kitchen when appropriate and hopefully I'll be able to help more now too. Chat later! Julie |
RE: Julie Pinkerton's Kitchen
Julie, your kitchen is divine. Absolutely stunning, timeless, elegant. I recall seeing your kitchen on another site (Painted cabinet, perhaps??), and I fell in love with it. It is an inspiration for those trying to achieve that sophisticated look! On another note, I can't believe there are grown "adults" on this board that cannot follow the old adage, "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all". I mean, really, why would someone feel compelled to put their $.02 in and try to cut someone down? Ummmm, I believe it is called bitterness. Sorry. |

Reno, I have to beg to differ in opinion. She might have been a regular person last week, but as of yesterday, Julie Pinkerton is a real life celebrity! I called DecoDiva, yesterday, to talk about cabinets. While talking, Kim asked me if I had seen Julie Pinkerton's kitchen? I had, but could only place 'frame shots' in my mind. I came home and looked up her kitchen. Yes, I had Julie's kitchen in my inspiration photos saved, but as another name. I love her cabinet color! I think it's fair to say that once people start talking about you like this, you're either known as a celebrity or a PITA. =0) |

LOL!!!!... I have seen her kitchen.... but I guess I am at a loss.. did she grow the wood herself... hewn by her own hand? tumble the limestone in her washer? I guess I am saying that I think it's quite nice but it seems pretty much what most high end kitchens in my area have to one degree or another and while nice... uhhhh it does not light me on fire. But then again I think that is one of the best parts about kitchen design.. there is room for all of us and we all can do beautiful kitchens in many differnt ways! Maddie, of the hodge-podge school of design |
RE: The legendary Julie Pinkerton
- Posted by: hollybolly (My Page) on Thu, Jun 30, 05 at 23:07
Maddie, I agree! Nice kitchen looks straight out of a magazine. Which I guess is why it doesn't light me on fire either. It's too generic I don't see anything personal or unique. A showcase but lacking personality perhaps. One of my favorites is Pammo's kitchen (in gallery finished kitchen 2). Hers is unique and oozes personality. |
RE: The legendary Julie Pinkerton
- Posted by: FlyLeft (My Page) on Thu, Jun 30, 05 at 23:37
hollybolly, I agree with you completely about Pammo's kitchen. I LOVE that kitchen, even though it wouldn't be a style that I would choose for my own. Bosche's is the other one that just floors me. THAT I would choose for my house, if I had a house three times the size of the one we have! |

Oh yeah, Bosche's kitchen is a dream! And Pammo's does have such a personality. And while we're talking wonderful, Janedibber's kitchen makes me want her house. And let's not forget Gardin_of_Darwin's gorgeous soapstone tiles, backsplooziesplat and great sink area, Vasheri's killer granite, Reno_fan's great checkerboard backsplash, HollyBolly'scharacter pottery and DIY sink, and Maddiemom's incredible cottage charm. Sweeby, Thanks for including me in that list. Those are all beautiful and unique kitchens. I especially love Bosche's. Given the resources it's pretty easy to recreate a "designer" kitchen. It's much more work and fun to make a staement that reflects you and your family. All of those that you mentioned did just that IMO. |
RE: The legendary Julie Pinkerton
- Posted by: Garden_Of_Darwin (My Page) on Fri, Jul 1, 05 at 18:29
Oy. Thanks for the compliment, but I hardly think my humble little "kitchenette" qualifies for a Hall of Fame. I do like the idea, though. Nominations and seconds? Then posting of pictures? I can create a TKO Hall of Fame page secondary to the IKEA Fan Site. It would be a static gallery with no drop-offs. Anyone game? Do they have to be "finished" kitchens? If not, I nominate Sweeby. Anyone want to second? (Gotta get pics somehow, Sweebs!) If anyone wants to participate, I'll start a new thread, and I can work on the webpage tonight. :) Susan |

RE: The legendary Julie Pinkerton
personally I like the idea of having all the kitchens listed.... who is to judge which are Hall of Famers or not? The Finished Kitchens Blog contains many of these kitchens. Members names are now alphabetized. The entire thread is copied which usually includes the details of the kitchen. I try to add to it when a kitchen is due to roll off the gallery. The format isn't the greatest.. I'm trying to find time to make it more user-friendly. But I'd love to have help if anyone is interested! |

Thanks Starpooh! What a resource! I'd never seen it before--shows you what I know... I wasn't suggesting that there be any judge, just a nomination and a second. But since you've already got them listed, I don't see any need. I had no clue! Susan |

Aw shucks. Twas nothin'. I started it a few weeks ago after a thread was posted about how finished kitchens in the gallery scrolled off too quickly (mostly because some folks "accidentally" post discussion threads in the gallery forum). I hoped that folks would help post their kitchens in the blog, but nobody volunteered. So I continued it basically for my own retrieval of kitchen photos. Besides, I'm an obsessive compulsive consolidator (sp?). I just added links to hollybolly's and reno_fan's kitchen. I've listed some of the kitchens you mentioned, but am missing a few. Susan ~ I've added a link to your IKEA finished kitchens. Hope it's ok :=) |

Well just my two cents but I think JP's kitchen is stunning, but then it is my favorite kind of kitchen. It's not just the colors and materials, but the way she has put everything together that appeals to me. |

Sweeby, my kitchen is about 90% complete. I'm still trying to carve out time to finish the Moby Dick of Backsplashes...there's something about doing tiny glass mosaic work and motherhood of an only child that just don't mix. When I have finished, and when my DH finally finishes putting up the molding/light rails/fillers that we've also abandoned for various activities out in the real world, I will finally post my kitchen. I promise. |

We're still in an 'unphotogenic' stage, but making progress. Two more pieces of soapstone in, and with luck, our red island gets assembled tomorrow (cross your fingers for me)! We did, if I say so myself, manage to match the factory finish pretty darn well... We've got our old beige Corian countertops up on our new cabinets, so it actually functions (sorta - no water, no stove), but doesn't look much like it will... But I promise - full photo spread to come. |

Does anyone have a link to Maddiemom's kitchen? I am interested in seeing it, as I like the cottage look. Also, starpooh...maybe the blog could also be organized by style of kitchen...or materials used? Alphabetically works really well if you know the kitchen you're looking for, but as a newbie I wouldn't know Julie Pinkerton from any other member! :) Is there a way to do both? |

Starpooh - Thank you, thank you, thank you. The completed kitchen site is awesome! I'm gonna do some serious studying the next time I have a few spare hours...what a resource! :) One of my favorites that I didn't see on there was NorCalNancy's kitchen. Not sure if she ever posted final pics, but I love her flamed, honed granite. Can't wait to add mine if it ever gets done.... |

Starpooh, How wonderful!! Please start a new post on the Forum, letting other members know of your site. It is so awesome, and a great help for easily finding the finished kitchens and getting ideas for your own. Somehow, this needed to be "archived" for ever! Thanks for sharing!! |

I agree, if there were some sort of index such as that of style, or color of cabinets, or countertops, etc. It would make it a lot easier (and more useful) for many people. I know that's a lot of additional work, but breaking it down into a couple of criteria could be doable. (I think a special section for "budget" kitchens would be very nice.) I know that's a lot of work, and it's akin to looking a gift horse in the mouth as you've done such a good job already, but think about it. |

Starpooh, I'm in the progress stage. I have my boxes painted. I'll eventually do a site with the finished kitchen. Mainly I've focused on COMPLAINING about the doggone mess that CABFIASCOGUY did on us. My progress is slow...but can be found for my home below. I'll post everything and send a link when I'm done. IF I get done. original cabinet mess: http://www.sherichase.com/cabinets |

WOW!! Starpooh, that is fantastic!!! Thanks so much! I wonder if Fatlester can link to her kitchen again? It would be great to include hers as well. She managed to put something really unique and stylish together. Oh and Warrens!! Remember his? Heeeaven. His and Bosches I think are still my two faves. And could they possibly be more different?! MjsMama, I wish I had a finished kitchen to show you!.. alas we are still collecting all the items for the kitchen.. since this is a DIY-cash deal I have been spending about a year buying stuff as I find it ( yes things are getting crowded!) Things are going well and I even spent a few hours this weekend doing scale sketches of the layout and the front on views. My big score was three vintage windows that are going to go above the built in hutch area. The hutched area comes up to about 6 feet and will effectivly block the view of my neighboors back yard..but I really wanted to have some light and the trees... the three windows will now shed in the light and give me a view of the tree tops and NOT of me neighboors sitting on their back porch having a smoke and a beer! maddiemom |

Starpooh-- Once again, good going! I just re-read above and realized that I'd skipped right over your question...I'd be glad to help (if I can) with the site. I don't know how much time I can devote to it, but I could put something simple together. E-mail me. And regarding our kitchen--it's yet to come! The pictures that folks have seen are of our breakfast room which is an addendum of sorts to the main kitchen. One of these days we'll get around to the main kitchen, but being committed DIYers and bargain hunters, it may be a while (although I do have the sink and faucet already...tee-hee). The main point of upgrading the breakfast room NOW was to gain a dishwasher and counterspace. I'd be glad to post pics if anyone's interested, but it's really not that big a thing. Susan |

Maddiemom, Vintage windows...sigh...my favorite! I scored three windows a few years ago (1800s Dutch stained glass bakery windows) that I used as window treatments in a very wide, but short, window I had in my last house. Now they are wrapped in bubble wrap, waiting patiently until I find a place for them in the new house. I am thinking of buying (finding) one more really big one (the other three are small) and forming some sort of series on the wall above the couch. Not a for sure thing...more like an idea that is marinating. I love my new house, but all the blank walls are killing me. Can't wait to turn it into a home. But, first, the kitchen..... |

I love so many of the kitchens mentioned. NorcalNancy's kitchen is stunning. LOVE her counters. I was considering soapstone - before I saw these. I have been mostly lurking for sometime and had stopped posting since my kitchen redo went on hold. I thought I would add her link though. I am waiting (im)patiently this morning for my new fridge and freezer to be delivered. The old ones were on their last leg. Unfortunately it is giving me the urge to start up this redo again and I don't know if I can fight it off much longer! |

Thanks for all the kind words about the blog. It wasn't quite ready for "prime time" yet due to the formatting issues that force you to scroll down below the links in order to access the contents of the posting. (Sorry wilsonb! But I appreciate the feedback... shows the blog has usability problems!) I added a blurb to the blog that highlights the scrolling issue. Hopefully this will help until I can fix the problem! MJsmama and HollySprings ~ eek! Categories!!! But actually that's a great idea, although alot of work. But I'm game... I'd be willing to add a category section to the blog, but I would need help to: Susan ~ Thanks for the offer! I'll email you soon. (Going out of town for a few days and won't have access to internet. [I may go nuts!!] Should be back online next Monday.) baytoshore ~ I will start a new post in both the discussion and gallery forums. Susan, maddiemom6, vasheri and, of course, Sweeby ~ can't wait to see your finished kitchens! |

This is from her old post re: refrig.: The Amana is their counter depth model BB20V1S. The cabinet maker made the door with the chalkboard panel insert. But it wasnt without problems... the full length Amana handle, which is part of the trim kit, had to be removed at a metal fabricator shop. Once the panel was in and the handle/end piece on, there was almost no room to put your hand behind the handle. Make sense? So in removing the Amana handles, we just ordered a couple more Top Knob pulls. In the end, it looks much better this way. The Amana specs simply didnt state that there configuration would really only work with a flat panel. |

Here is the link to Warren's kitchen that Ivette mentions above. It has been on my list of favorites during this whole long process and is a longtime favorite on the Lacanche threads. Also, just to make you all jealous, I have seen Bosche's kitchen and it is even more stunning in person. She designed it all herself, and it is one of the most serene places you could imagine. It was also the first place I saw a Tapmaster, which promptly went on my "must have" list. |
