I'm starting a new thread for finished kitchens and begging everyone PLEASE not to post to the first "Finished Kitchens" thread. There is still room for 8 bumps. Hopefully that will keep that thread around for at least 6 months and possibly as much as a year. Thanks everyone! |

Sharon, I will archive that file and put it on my photo host, so it will be around for as long as I am ;) Some of the links on that thread are broken...I'll try to edit those out. |

Love your kitchen. |
RE: Finished kitchens part 2
Oh wow-your kitchen is looking awesome -I raced over here to check it out. I can see why you fell in love with the soapstone, magnificient (especially the wide veins). Love the cherry cabinets, too, and the big single bowl (Kindred?) sink. Your layout looks great, as well. Can't wait to see the details. BTW- have you had any luck deciding on the island top? |
RE: Finished kitchens part 2 No Responses
Isn't this the thread where we're not supposed to post comments? I thought we wanted this thread to last a year. I hate to waste a post on this, but the last FINISHED KITCHENS THREAD was "no responses," and this one should be too. Skivino kindly started a thread in the regular forum for her new kitchen. Please, no more responses on this thread! |

I figured out how to post pictures! Here's the scoop: Originally we planned to gut the kitchen. The previous owners had refaced the original custom built cabs in white, added a white laminate counter and white tile backsplash then topped it off with a white ceramic tile floor that they laid over particle board. Yes, the floor was all cracked when we moved in. The place looked like an operating room. And all of this was in a house in the woods with dark stained woodwork, pegged oak floors and a floor to ceiling fieldstone fireplace in the living room. When I started investigating cabs, I realized that I would actually lose space unless I went with custom again because our cabs were original to the house and utilized every millimeter of space. Plus I liked the layout and they are well built. So, we decided to keep the cabs and change everything else. If in the end, we hated the white, we could always reface them again. (But we like the look now.) Here's the almost final product (still need to replace the switches and plugs on the backsplash and get new handles on the cabs and stain the new slider in the dining side). Floor: porcelain that looks like stone (it's actually more beige/brown than in the pictures I think) And it does a great job hiding paw prints! Granite: Angola Black Backsplash: Porcelain (that looks like slate) 2x2 with glass inserts (looks a bit green in the pics, more gray in person) Sink: Silgranit single bowl in metallic gray, undermount Faucet: PP Parisa Oven: GE Profile convection (thanks MEM9) Cooktop: AEG induction (thanks again!) Fridge: LG French Door (titanium) Dishwasher: Kitchenaid What a relief to have it done and like it! Thanks so much to everyone here for their help. I know this kitchen would not look like it does today if it wasn't for many of you on this forum! And remember--NO COMMENTS ON THIS THREAD! |

Kitchen was part of a bigger addition to the house. It also included a mudroom, laundry, dining room, powder, huge bonus and back stairwell, as well as a deck. General Contractor was Kier Miller out of Lake Oswego. **Wonderful** Kitchen: Vaulted, about 18 x 20 new construction (addition) on a 1992 spec house, box Colonial. Painted Coranado Gold (RL) to match the rest of the open space in the house. Windows: Basic Milgard Windows, nothing fancy. Roman Shade: CUSTOM, at great personal sacrifice!! Kidding, fabric is Le Coq from Calico Corners and has Italian script on it. It is also available in a gold background, but the black worked better for me. Pulldown shade is from Hunter Douglas, through HD and works like a pair of sunglasses, you can see right through it. I am crazy about the look and will be ordering them for the rest of the house when the budget allows. Floors: Red Oak All on dimmers and I have plugmold! Counters: Island: St. Cecilia slab, Perimeter, Black Galaxy granite 26" x 18" x 1/2" tiles, Bake Center counter, Calcutta Oro slab Backsplash is pearl white 3" x 6" subway tile from Pratt & Larson in Portland. It is handmade and gorgeous and it all came from the seconds warehouse. Primary Sink: Rohl Farmsink with Rohl Faucet Hardware from BuyHardWareOnline.com - LOVE IT, and under $2 each (!) Appliances: Amana counter depth frig with cabinet panels Goodness, it took me two minutes to type the choices that took me five months to make! nutty!!! |

I am taking the liberty of adding debbick's kitchen to this post because her original post is about to scroll off and WE CANNOT LOSE IT!!!! Here are copies of her postings about the various items in her kitchen: "Long list, Woodmode cabinets, absolute black granite counters and behind stove, Miele Steam Oven, Miele Coffee System & warming drawer, Wolf 48" all gas 6 burner stove w/griddle. Rangemaster 48" hood. Ventahood keep warm shelf. Miele 27" Convection Oven and Mile Lift door for Sharp micorwave. Subzero all freezer and all frig units and Subzero frig drawers in island. Also 2 Miele dishwashers, 1 in island and 1 at main sink. Sinks are Franke 30x18x9 and 17" round on island. Floors are wood with radiant heat. Fireplace in FR is gas and there will be a 42" flat screen tv over the fireplace. I'll post other pictures of the house on the bathroom forum after a few more items are completed in our MB and downstairs powder room. The house is a brick Geogian Colonial built in the early 1900's. We've done everything over (some things more than once) and really love the place. "Thanks everyone. I forgot to mention the Grohe stainless pot filler over the stove which is awesome! I made a huge pot of soup last night and filling it was a dream. "krampus: I love the Absolute Black. All granite has a glare. I have granite at a summer home that is a peach/beige color and that shows the same glare. Truthfully I like the black better because its easier to clean. The other granite does hide the dirt, if thats what you like, but you have to almost look at it from an angle to see if its clean. Often I think its clean and then I run my hand over it and feel a spot I missed. With the black I just spray with Black Diamond counter cleaner and the look is beautiful. I'm going to order their polisher too. I'm really happy with my choice and would do it again "Aznfg: The Miele coffee system is awesome. Its easy to use and makes a great cup of coffee. The only thing I would change is their bean compartment. You can't take it all the way out to change from regualr to decaf. We've figured out how much coffee to use per cup so I can have regular in the morning and decaf at night. Its worth the effort. "Claire de luna: Yes, the drawers are inset. The kitchen is 22 1/2 by 17, not including the family room. "merjan: the color is from Benjamin Moore, I have to find where the painters put the can and then I will post the color for you. "FOUND IT!! It seems my painter lost the cover to the original can, so he had my paint store copy the color from the paint sample he had. The new can just said "Green" on it and confused everyone. When I brought the can and the formula to the shop they searched the computer for a match to the formula and found the original name. |

RE: Finished kitchens part 2
Our kitchen rennovation began with a 25 year old 10x11 dilapidated kitchen. The new kitchen required the removal of the 3 walls of the old kitchen, including busting into the old dining room (which was previously moved to the old formal living room). My husband and I renovated every single room in the house as DIY over the last 6 years, except for the kitchen, which we've contracted out. The result is a large kitchen with 4 new windows and a new door, which leads to a large ground level deck, and connects to our new sunroom. It also includes a new 5 x 5 walk-in pantry, a butler’s pantry and bar area leading to the dining room, new bookshelves and a baker’s pantry. In addition to the kitchen, we added an 18 x 18 sunroom, to get some light in our lives, since our living room has a northern orientation. We began this project on January 12th of this year. This is designed to be a 2 cook kitchen, thus the double prep areas. My husband and I cook together all the time, and wanted separate work areas, so we had room to move. Bruce is tall, so his counters have been elevated to 40". The remaining counters in the kitchen are set at 37.5". New Kitchen Dimensions - 26’6" x 13’7". |

Ours was not a remodel, but *still* a functional kitchen in a new-build. If you're looking for top-o-line appliances, you won't find them here. LOL! For just the two of us, basic (new & matching!) was satisfactory -- nothing fancy. Stainless didn't really work in this house and we didn't care for black, so we went with mid-upper line white appliances. Following are a few details: Cabinets: custom PC maple, natural w/laquer, ORB hardware Favorite Features: the raised dishwasher!, under & over cab lighting, the wood rangehood, the skylight/dormer opening and the space for two-to-cook. Following is a link to pics. The kitchen pics don't have their own folder but are grouped together in the middle of our house-album. We moved in 4/16/04. |

Anyways, I've pretty much forgotten all details, as a want to be done and move on!!! But I'll get my binder out...so here are some details! Stove: 1950 Wedgewood double oven six burner that we dismantled and restored: I Love it!! Think I got most of it. You'll have to sift through the house renovation photos to find the kitchen, sorry! We still need to install the hood, and panels for the fridge and dishwasher. |

Our new kitchen in our new home. We've been in the house for six weeks now and the kitchen feels good. I still need to buy some items to help organize but that will be ongoing. Cabinets by Brown County Cabinets Wood: Maple - island is painted an off white and other cabinets are a medium stain. Full extension glides on all drawers and pull outs Floor: Shaw engineered hardwood - Rustic Natural Maple Sinks: Kohler Staccato, stainless Faucets: Kohler Vinnata, chrome Fridge - Kenmore Trio Dishwasher - Kenmore Elite Range - Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel range Lighting - Kenroy Intl Knobs - oil rubbed bronze Countertop - Formica Jamocha Granite in the sparkle finish Stools - Shopko $24.99! I call them my Pottery Barn knock-offs. I do plan to put up a backsplash just not sure what I want yet. As of today, I'm leaning towards glass tile. It will also stop just below the outlets. We also need to purchase undercabinet lighting. The electrican ran the wires for us. Would I do anything differently? I would have tried to make room for a dishdrawer in the island and put a dishdrawer or two where the current dishwasher is and had them integrated. I don't like looking at my dishwasher. |

We totally remodeled the kitchen and tore out a wall to make a great room. Our new kitchen has Ultracraft cherry cabinets with amber stain, Siro metro pulls, Jetta Stone countertops/sink, and Kenmore appliances. We might still put a backsplash over the range and a valance in the window. It's finally starting to feel like home! If you have any questions, I'll post a thread in the "discussions" area. |

My kitchen was part of a larger addition/remodel; the main purpose of which was to add an in-law apartment on for my Dad. We bought this house expressly for that purpose and only lived here for 3 months before groundbreaking. However we ended up remodelling and/or reconfiguring the entire layout of the house. Every room was affected to some degree. A standard 30 year old center-entry Colonial got a big kitchen open to the family room and lots of light! Having lived and breathed this renovation (most of my energy went into the kitchen) for the past 18 months; we are almost at the end of the road! The final inspetion is next week! I'll post here too, to avoid being "bumped off" in the near future! Our remodel was an afterthought, really. We had a little bit of money left after replacing our HVAC system, and thought, "Well, we should get some new appliances." Before we knew it, we had torn the kitchen down to the studs! Since this was not the plan, we had a very small budget to work with. Thankfully, we had some good connections, and were able to get alot of freebies, and alot at a great discount. I'll post costs, for anyone else who may want to see how far your budget can take you: Here are the details I can recall: Cabinets were custom built by a friend who's a master carpenter. $4000 (Including new mantel in LR) Granite-Santa Cecilia Light/Giallo Ornamental 3cm 30 sq ft $1440 Sink- Kohler Executive Chef in biscuit -Free from one of DH's clients. Glass in doors-Seeded glass Faucet- Delta Saxony in Venetian Bronze-Free from same client Backsplash- American Olean tiles from Lowes in Black and Maize $65 Flooring-Williamsburg Plank Peel and Stick vinyl "wood plank" in Patriot Oak color- Free from a family member who runs the company that manufactures the product. Knobs bought from Cabinethardwaredesigns.com SuperSavers collection in aged distressed bronze. $100 Paint is a Benjamin Moore color Dunsmore Cream (I think...) Chandelier is from Lowes $85. Refrigerator JennAir SxS in Stainless steel $600 from local Scratch and dent place. JennAir Microwave/Convection Oven combo: $800 from same store. JennAir Slide in downdraft range/smoothtop/convection oven: $800 from same store. Dishwasher, Kenmore Ultrawash, reused from previous kitchen. Miscellaneous: $500 Pendant lights (Not up yet) Leopard Glass from Lowe's $30 each. Total:$8450 All labor done by us, and kind-hearted friends who knew what they were doing! They are hickory with walnut pegs in each corner. The finish is a stain called "Amber Spice" Hardware ~ Mission style knobs from the Belwith-Keeler collection ~ purchased on eBay for $1/piece Countertop ~ Nevamar laminate in "Green Matrix" with a no-drip edge and flat-deck (no added 4" backsplash) Sink ~ the 4-hole Kohler Staccato (eBay purchase) Faucet ~ Price Pfister "Marielle" in the ORB finish (again, an eBay find) Cook top ~ Jenn-air ~ similiar to this one (but a previous version) Fridge ~ KA Superba Double Oven ~ KA upper/lower convection (black not white as in this picture) Warming Drawer ~ KA Classic Series OTR MW ~ KA Microhood combo Flooring ~ Engineered hardwood in cherry ~ from Sun Paratech (this runs throughout LR and DR) Slate ~ in backsplash and entry way ~ natural slate from India ~ purchased from HD for $1/sq. ft Paint ~ the red/brick is "Flower Pot" by SW, the dark yellow/gold is "Honeycomb" from SW and the light yellow is "Harvester" from SW Outlet Covers ~ in slate to match the backsplash ~ made for me by a friend Outlet Covers for DR ~ a friend is making some very similar to these for me in copper - I just have to get the hammering done on them and they are ready to put up |

RE: Finished kitchens part 2
I guess it is time to add our kitchen to this thread. Like everyone else, we never could have accomplished what we did without the help of this forum. I am so grateful that I stumbled across it. Our remodel actually impacted the entire front part of our house. We moved two walls in the kitchen, eliminated a useless nook area, scraped ceilings, and covered a circa 1970's beam in the family room that instantly took this house from the 70's to the 2000's. And as long as we were at it, we decided to do a quick update on the front bathroom. I'd like to say we're finished for awhile, but that would be a lie. Appliances: Plumbing: Tile installed by Scottile Co. Floor: Porcelain Serrento beige that kinda sorta looks like travertine, set broken joint. Paint: Ellen Kennon Full Spectrum Paints--Magnolia in the kitchen, Honeysuckle in the familyroom, hall, bathroom, and all ceilings, custom red (based on RL Hunting Coat Red) in the living room. All trim is EK Snow (or will be when I get the last little details taken care of). |

RE: Finished kitchens part 2
Our kitchen is nearly finished. Today we cleaned it up, so I took a couple of pics. Not as fancy as some, but so far we love it... The Granite is Emerald Pearl.

RE: Finished kitchens part 2
I just realized (after all the time I've spent on this site - go figure!) that I probably should have posted on this thread. So here goes: Thanks to the advice and encouragement and inspiration of everyone here, my kitchen was transformed from a source of daily irritation to a space of peace and beauty and nourishment. I am deeply grateful for all the kindness and generosity of folks on this forum. The footprint of the kitchen stayed about the same. We just moved things around to create efficiency where none had previously existed. We widened the doorway to the dining room, which we now use as a study, and we widened the window to let in more light. Oh, and we added the columns, which previously had been stained 4x4's. A contractor friend came over the other day and told me ribbingly that they look very "Tony Soprano" but, hey, it's Jersey, after all. Feel free to email with questions. Details: Appliances: Plumbing Fixtures: Electrical: Custom cabinets - base 30" deep; uppers 18" deep • Island: • Rev-a-shelf corner cabinet insert (5207) Countertops Backsplash Wall paint is Donald Kaufman #48 in the kitchen, #50 in the dining area.
