Beautiful Backsplashes:Links to BreathTaking Pictures & Resources
Posted by cupofkindness (My Page) on Mon, Jun 21, 04 at 20:25This thread is to provide links or in-text pictures of backsplashes that, unlike the other backsplash thread in the Gallery, are not a forum member's own backsplash. It is also to provide links/pictures to inspiring manufacturers and designers, tiles, stones, metals, glass and other materials that are backsplash elements. Please limit "conversations" about various links to the "Discussions" section of the Kitchen Forum so that this thread can be a resources list only. Please, please post any completed backsplashes or materials that you have come across as you have worked on your own backsplash. Let's start this thread with the gorgeous red tile backsplash that Sharon G found for me on a "Discussions" side of the Kitchen Forum. Thank you!

That WZ backsplash tile is so richly textured. The muted colors are stunning. Is it four colors or five? I love it. It's very calming, but without being boring. What a great choice. Here's another link. This is Meredith Tile and shows some of their glazes. Lots of lovely whites and creams. Plus crackles.

Here's another dazzling tile source in the UK. They have a service called "Welbeck Words" and will custom mold text into what appear to be subway-type tiles. |

I love those Ann Sacks tiles! One inspired me, the diagonal pale green ones with the inset square dots. Femmelady, what a breath-taking backsplash. Thanks for posting the decorative metal tiles and the onyx! Where can I see your whole kitchen? And lowspark, I nearly went to 12" tiles on the diagonal after I saw that backsplash. Grapes are so classic. You'll never run out of accessories and accent pieces with a grape theme. And if you run out, all you have to is go and buy a bottle of wine (or just grapes!). Gorgeous! Here is a link to a faux tile Corian backsplash. I am eternally in love with blue and white in the crisp look of this kitchen. The countertops are "Mediterranean." My mother talked me out of that blue Corian color (I have Vanilla instead), but it will always be the one that gets my heart pumping! I also appreciate the practicality of the mini-backsplash in the countertop color. Lifting the main backsplash design up an inch or two is a good idea to keep things a little cleaner. |

My finished backsplash. Whew! I had no idea that designing this would be so hard. Viv's Backsplash I did find a website for the glass border - they have some beautiful stuff. I'm glad I didn't find this site before I ordered my border because I would have really driven myself nuts figuring out what I wanted. Luckily, the tile store had just what I wanted already made up as a sample. |

Cupofkindness-- I love your style! Everything you like seems to resonate with me. I'm the original Welbeck tile-lover, and you surprised me with the link you provided for Blue Bell Kitchens--that's who is doing my kitchen! The Welbecks were just too expensive for me--I'm going with white subways with a framed herringbone area above the AGA. The frame may have a little egg-and-dart detail, but I haven't made the final selection yet, as the tile person has gone on vacation for 2 wks. I still covet the Welbeck words, but I broke the bank on cabinets, the AGA, and the soapstone. |

RE: Beautiful Backsplashes:Links to BreathTaking Pictures & Resou
At Cup's request, here is a link to my finished kitchen. My backsplash is a Eurosplash -- in the European style it goes from countertop to ceiling. It's composed of Ann Sacks Sur La Mer 4 x 4" glazed handmade Mexican tiles in 4 colors: azure (blue), oyster (white), ochre (yellow), and foam (grey). There is a bullnose piece with 1 rounded edge used for the exposed side. These are handmade tiles and while they measure 4 x 4, they are irregular and actually measure about 4-3/8" each. So we added far too much overage and ended up with almost double the amount of tile we needed (it's in my basement and I will either use it or sell it on ebay). I created a pattern so the repeats of the colors wouldn't form optical patterns and drive me crazy. But the tilesettle had a difficult time creating the pattern due to the irregularity of the tiles. Many were trimmed and beveled to look whole but they were not! I sealed the grout with Aquamix 511 sealer and so far, even spaghetti sauce wipes right off. Glazed tiles clean beautifully with windex and nothing sticks or penetrates. |

Gail: Your backsplash is a masterpiece. When I look at the range backsplash, based on the pictures, the harlequin tile appears to be woven. Wow! Thank you for posting the link. Jane: How smart to create a wall that appears random to avoid an optical pattern. I adore your backsplash. It's clean looking and I love the squares of color. That's the best way I can say it. Thanks to you as well for posting your backsplash. ~Cindy |

Here is an example of IKEA accessories that can be mounted on the backsplash. Several others manufacture backsplash rail systems that allow the open storage of kitchen utensils, spices, knives, paper towels, etc. |

Please tell me who had the backsplash that had fall leaves cascading down the wall. I think it was Sweeby, but I'm not sure. I couldn't get the picture to open. That is my inspiration backsplash and I can't find it! |

Funny you should ask right before I visited this thread for the first time in ages! -- Yup, it was me. The bar's not completely done, but you can see the splash. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v733/Sweeby/68-Barandphonewall.jpg And Here's our kitchen splash -- Walker Zanger Gramercy Park crackle subways in Bone China, Sommerset handpainted liner, and Base molding set upside-down. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v733/Sweeby/12-CoffeeBar.jpg |

Does anybody have a saved copy of "the other backsplash thread in the Gallery"... the one with forum members' own backsplashes? I'd like to add it to the Finished Kitchens blog. (Many folks have recently requested more info on backsplashes.) If we can't find it, is anyone willing to start a new thread? |
