Cherry w/Verde Butterfly kitchen - done!!!
Posted by geogirl1 (My Page) on Sun, Jun 19, 05 at 11:46
It's been a long journey, but a lot of fun along the way! Our kitchen demolition began
in November, 2003. We extended our original kitchen out 6 feet. An 11' x 14.5'
cramped, eat-in kitchen with little area to work in became a 14.5' x 17' kitchen that is
a breeze to work and live in. Our renovations included a complete gut of the kitchen,
tearing down the wall between the dining room and the kitchen and the addition of an
office off of the dining room. The contractors were done by March 2004. Yep, that's
over a year ago. We painted and then lived with the kitchen a while before choosing
and installing a backsplash. The backsplash FINALLY went in last week. I love it!
We still need to repaint the kitchen the same color as the dining room, buy one
Durango colored light switch/outlet plate and investigate painting our refrigerator
black. We bought a new refrigerator to match our old kitchen about 6 months before
we decided to renovate. Maybe well move this one to the garage and buy a new one.
That wont happen for a while though. In the mean time I'll make something up about
it being a design element tying in the grout and tile with the kitchen..yeah right.
Cabinets: Kraft maid Lyndale cherry in a honey stain.
Countertops: Verde Butterfly with " bevel (no white in these slabs I think it looks a
lot like Verde Peacock)
Backsplash: 4x4 honed Durango. Accent tiles are from Encore Ceramics Vecchio line,
multi antico color.
Pulls: Amerock Inspirations Leaf pull in weathered nickel
Knobs: Amerock Inspirations Rope knob in weathered nickel
Dining room side knobs: Notting Hill Saddleworth in antique brass
Sink: Blanco. Double reverse. Love it. No more dishes drying on the counter.
Faucet: Grohe
Stools: 24" Amisco "Tammy" with backs and swivel. Very comfortable.
Floors: Bruce, oak, no bevel, no micro bevel (worth every penny), Gunstock.
Oven: GE Profile convection
Microwave: GE Profile with kit
Stove top: GE Profile with 5 burners and griddle option (love it!)
Range Hood: Kenmore (made by Nutone Allure)
DW: Kenmore
Plug mold and xenon under cabinet lights.
Things I like best: Pull-out trash with recycling bin (no more cans on the countertop!)
Broom closet (I have a place to put my broom/swiffer, yeah!!!)
36" pull out pantry. It's all there. Everything. One stop shopping.
Plug mold
Dog food cabinet. Love it!
Good luck to all of you!

geogirl, what a lovely kitchen - the attention you paid to detail really stands out. Could you tell us about your window dressings - did you make them? Enjoy your new kitchen! Meg |
RE: Cherry w/Verde Butterfly kitchen - done!!!
I'm LOL b/c I "found" the valance at Tuesday Mornings. They are actually 3 sets of $5 napkins that I hung over a rod. No sewing, just hung them up. |
RE: Cherry w/Verde Butterfly kitchen - done!!!
Geogirl...you must be thrilled! I love the look...love the granite. The stools are very cool...and the napkins for your valance!! Very nice touch... Everything came together beautifully. Great job. Enjoy! |

Geogirl, absolutely stunning. Love everything. It's obvious you put alot of planning into your kitchen. My cabients will be similar color. Love your granite. Is it easy to care for? does it show smudges? Where did you get your tile for your backsplash. Love it! |
RE: Cherry w/Verde Butterfly kitchen - done!!!
Thanks everyone! Docats: The granite is very easy to maintain. Water and soap do leave smudge marks, so I basically clean the kitchen with "no ammonia" Windex or Glass Plus and a microfiber cloth. Wipe and go, no big deal at all. I think the granite looks much shinnier in the pictures than it does in person. Probably from the flash of the camera. It's not so glaring in real life! The backsplash is honed and filled durango tile that you can get at almost any tile store. The accent tiles are from a company called Encore Ceramics. I think that they are on the web so you can find who carries their line near you. Only one high-end store near me carries them. I found them from a forum member (Dedtired) when she used them in her beautiful kitchen. The entire line is really beautiful. I am laughing alot about the valance. After investing countless hours and thousands of dollars into my kitchen, almost everyone asks where I got my valence. $15 impulse buy from a discount store. I figured they'd be easy to replace if I ever saw something that I just "had to have"! Good luck with your new kitchen! |

Your kitchen is just beautiful! Wish I had found those accent tiles when I was looking for accents for our backsplash; they're stunning! And I bet you don't even mind doing dishes with that terrific view of the yard from your sink. Nice job all around; enjoy for years to come! |

Oh, now I am really laughing. I am (or used to be) Dedtired. Now I remember when you asked about my backsplash tiles. I am so happy that I got to see your kitchen -- especially the backsplash. You did a great job. I love the accent tiles you chose. I still love mine and enjoy them every day, even though it's been two years since they were done. My granite is Verde Peacock, so we have very similar tastes. My cabs are maple, though. Somehow I got banned from these forums -- I swear I don't know what I did -- and I had to re-register with a different name and email. Congratualtions on a beautiful kitchen and may you enjoy it for many happy years. Pam |
RE: Cherry w/Verde Butterfly kitchen - done!!!
Hi Pam! I'm glad you are still lurking in the forum. I did steal your backsplash for my own. I even spent the extra $$ so I could get the Encore tiles from Devon Tile. I used Durango (thanks Meadow MD) for the field tile. I think yours is a bit lighter to compliment your maple cabs. Your kitchen is beautiful. I'm glad you are still enjoying it 2 years later. It took us over a year to get the backsplash done. I feel like I've been hanging out on this forum as an active member WAAAAAAYYYY too long. I think I've cycled through 3 groups of new kitchens. Now that the backsplash is in, I want to change the paint color of the kitchen. My husband just rolls his eyes! Not sure why you got banned. I know some members voiced some strong political views during the election and were asked to stop. In any case, glad you are back! FYI, your kitchen link in the Finished Kitchen summary (part 1&2,plus more) is not working. Maybe you could set up a new link for all the new members. Your kitchen is a classic! |

Hi -- I don't come back here very often but it's fun to pop in every once in awhile to see what people are doing. Isn't it amazing that I would come across your post? I haven't even looked at these pix for a long time. I wish my kitchen were still this clean. It has held up well, though. The only big change I would make is not getting the porcelain tile floor which is cold and hard. I hope to start on bathroom renovations upstairs in another year, so perhaps I'll be hanging out in the bathroom forum. I can't wait to get back to Devon Tile to pick tile for a bathroom. Their stuff is so gorgeous, sometimes I just stop in to look around. The only reason I can think of for getting banned was maybe a typo? Perhaps I hit f instead of d when spelling duck? I guess I'll never know. Whatever, it certainly wasn't intentional. Here's another link. I hope it works. I think my kitchen is pretty ordinary compared to some of the eye-poppers I've seen here. It's more than enough for me, though. Nice to catch up with you. Pam |
